Each year at the end of city of Trujillo. Capital of the Department of La Libertad, dons its best to celebrate a festival dedicated to the National Dance of Peru called La Marinera ( Courtship dance).
The city, located on the northern coast of Peru about eight hours by road from Lima has a lovely and gay colonial Architecture. The main event during this festival is the National La Marinera.
The dance called La Marinera is performed by a couple who, dressed in traditional garb for the occasion, flirts with each other while graciously fluttering their handkerchiefs and keeping step.
The National La Marinera Contest is a festival full of youth, colour and beauty.
Throughout the days of the festival every one mingles and shares in the fun. Participants of the prize winning contest and laymen on the streets dance together and multi-colored pageants and Peruvian Paso Horses are paraded down the streets and avenues of the city. During this event, Trujillo, the Springtime Capital of Peru, is bustling with a festive spirit.
